11 Unusual College Scholarships

With countless college scholarships out there, it can be challenging to find one that is both fun and fits you. Many of them reward athleticism, while most of them demand a high GPA. Then there are others that prize community engagement. However, if our experience teaches us anything, it is that not all students fall so neatly into these much-lauded categories (Insert Link to the previous post).

So, what about them? Must they study and work through college since they won’t get any financial support? Will they have to try out for college scholarships that don’t value what these unique students have to offer? We thought that wouldn’t do! And so, we hunted for awards that reward not just excellence but also the quirkiness and weird abilities.

Our hunt quickly turned into a seemingly endless list where students, such as yourself, can get funding. We present just a few of them below:

Duck Brand Duct Tape Stuck at Prom Contest

The brand offers promgoers a chance to win a grand prize of $10,000. To win it, though, your prom dress must demonstrate liberal use of their duct/crafting tape. Then, capture it in a photograph and send it to the contest-holders. After that, cross your fingers and toes as you wait to see if your costume won their hearts!

American Board of Funeral Service Education National College Scholarship Program

Yes, the field of mortuary and funerary sciences doesn’t figure into many students’ career plans. However, if you walk off the well-trodden path, then these $500-$2,500 college scholarships are for you! The aim of the Board is to garner more under/graduate students’ interest towards the field. They reward two graduate and undergraduate students. Unsurprisingly, you must complete a semester of coursework in the field before you can apply.

UFDC College Scholarships

College scholarships come in all flavors. This one is through a doll club federation, and it means $1,000 for students who win it. The club, as you’d expect, promotes and appreciates dolls. It has four different approaches on dollmaking:

Pick the approach that sounds more your style.

Doodle 4 Google Competition

Google awaits students who can address the question of inspiration in a creative manner. The latter could win $30,000 if they can manage that while incorporating the logo of the company to express their inspiration. You are eligible for this contest if you’re a K-12 student legally present in the US or any of its Territories.

The resultant doodles first get separated into five grade-based groups. There’s a different judging panel each year. Every grade produces a finalist. Additionally, Google displays their work and that of a national winner on their website.

American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest

High school freshmen and seniors can win $18,000 if they enter this oratorical contest. You just have to be a legal US resident and under 20 to take part in it. Regarding the oratory piece, yours should cover some aspect of the country’s constitution. While the panel displays the topics on their website, we’d recommend sticking to ones that emphasize the duties and obligations of citizens to the US government.

Additionally, there’s a winner in each state in this national contest. All of them also receive a $1,500 scholarship.

National Rice Month Scholarship

Whether you’re a college freshman or a high school senior, you can win one of the three awards. Through these college scholarships, you may get a prize of $1,500 – $4,000, provided you hail from a rice-growing state. Therefore, it is open to students from:

  • Arkansas
  • Louisiana
  • California
  • Missouri
  • Mississippi
  • Texas

Besides your state-ship, the panel will require a short video – just three minutes long or lesser. In it, it will be up to you describe how rice and National Rice Month matter to your state.

Final Fantasy Fan Scholarship

Another of the quirky college scholarships that rewards ardent fans of the Final Fantasy game. By submitting an essay – up to five paragraphs long – on your connection to the game, you may win $1,000.

If you’re searching for a college scholarship that doesn’t only come from a prestigious institution. But one that also has a huge amount, i.e., $50,000, attached to it, then it is this one! Besides the amount we mention, students also stand to take home $25,000 and $10,000.

The criterion, in this case, is that each applicant should have a significant piece of work to their name before they turn 18. The panel awards contributions to the following fields:
